What is the best part of Chicago to live in?

Something urban, lots of public transportation, cafes, coffee houses, bookstores, cultural life. Just not overly yuppie. What is the best part of Chicago to live in?
You are forgetting the following locations on North Side:

Logan Square included Palmer

Ukrainian Village

Portage Park

Ravenswood

Lakeview/Balmoral

I happen to like some areas of Rogers Park, particularly around Western Devon Avenue (Indian area) if you are into the ethnic thing

On the Southside, you should look at:

Hyde Park

Kenwood

Beverly

Morgan Park

Printer's Row

South Loop

Also consider the area around Greek Town %26amp; River North
I love the area around Lincoln park, Lake shore drive, Streets of Michigan Ave..oh, ton of places :), The Pier..all Chicago loop.

Try West Division street.., Bergoff, The Lodge..What is the best part of Chicago to live in?
If you don't want overly yuppie, you don't want Lincoln Park. Check out Wicker Park or Bucktown. Some parts of Lakeview are not as overly yuppie as others. If you want to do the real urban living thing check out the South Loop or the West Loop. There are lots of lofts and stuff. A few cafes and coffee shops, but not as many as the other areas I mentioned. There's a cool site called Live Here Chicago at www.liveherechicago.com that has good info on neighborhoods and stuff.

Also, check out www.metromix.com since it has a lot of information about things to do in different areas. It will give you a good sense of what your options are. Time Out Chicago is also a good resource for seeing what kind of stuff is happening in different areas.
Try Wicker Park, around the corner of Damen, Milwaukee, and North. That area has a lot of bookstores and coffee houses, and although being gentrified and while there are yuppies around, it still retains a kind of bohemian air. Lincoln Park has al lthe cafes, coffee houses, bookstores, and culture, but it's Yuppie Central. What is the best part of Chicago to live in?
Andersonville is a great place to live and the corner of Clark and Foster is full of great hangouts. It's got a lot of that Chicago charm and a lot less of the the Lincoln Park/Gold Coast/River North pretension.
You know it really depends on what your interests are besides what you desribed... what you desribed it a lot of Chicago. I love Wriggleville, but I love Baseball! It's a really neat mix of people near the stadium and also in Boystown, lots of places to eat with great bars cool little coffeshops to sit in. Check craigslist about prices etc to find something that might work for you. Good luck hun!
