Why are so many ACORN offices attempting to obscure who they really are?

Merely by changing their names and printing new business cards?

CHICAGO — Affiliates of the once mighty liberal activist group ACORN are remaking themselves in a desperate bid to ditch the tarnished name of their parent organization and restore federal grants and other revenue streams that ran dry in the wake of a video scandal.

The letters A, C, O, R and N are coming off office doors from New York to California. Business cards are being reprinted. New signs with new names are popping up in front of offices.

One of the latest groups to adopt a new name is ACORN Housing, long one of the best-funded affiliates. Now, the group is calling itself the Affordable Housing Centers of America.

Others changing their names include what were among the largest affiliates: California ACORN is now Alliance of Californians for Community Empowerment, and New York ACORN has become New York Communities for Change. More are expected to follow suit.

Are they not proud of their accomplishments?

In your opinion, will they succeed in fooling the public?|||Just like the individuals that make them up, Liberals keep changing their names. This shows what phonies and fakes they really are. First they were Communists, the Socialists, next Liberals and now "Progressives" Their constant changing of names is a vain attempt to disguise who they are. Acorn is no different...|||because they arent what youve been spoonfed by your hate radio|||Why are you so scared of ACORN?|||The name ACORN is wrapped up in scandal thanks to the idiot who will spend time in jail. (That makes me happy)

It makes sense to change their name and start anew.|||Because they know Americans are stupid and it will work -- even on Congress.|||So they can regain funding without being identified|||A Yahoo.answers user informed me the other day ACORN has been run out of the state of Ohio. I mean told to get their butts gone. I hope more states follow suit.

Great article. Thanks for sharing! :D|||Because Reichtwingers did a bang-up job - while spending millions and millions of dollars - speading lies and propaganda to ruin the reputation of a perfectly functional public service who helped poor people and minorities.|||Like Al Capone, they need to stay one step ahead of the cops! No they won't fool those who keep themselves informed. I can only hope that they are disbanded and their leaders, ( SE IU, Andy Stern for one) are tried for fraud.

MR|||Why do conservatives think they can tell insane lies about a good organization like ACORN and pretend that their lies haven't been exposed?

ACORN has been accused of no illegal activities. The video was a sham. A fraud. Its primary architect is in jail. Are you seriously insulting us by pretending that none of this happened?

I have the Congressional Research Service report. You have nothing. I win.

I want to make this perfectly clear: ACORN did nothing wrong, and this is an objective fact. Disagreeing with objective facts doesn't make you look clever, it makes you look blind.|||From Altria to Xe Services Worldwide, groups change their name to get away from a reputation they may have. You probably know Altria better as Philip Morris (tobacco giant) and Xe Services better as Blackwater (the security firm that had some issues in Iraq).

Will it work? Probably, but if a company continues to do things under their new name that got them in trouble before then a name change won't help.|||James O'Keefe is a proven fraud. ACORN cleared of all charges and federal funding returned. And yet, Conservatives continue to use ACORN as the boogieman to their ignorant base. Since the group is more interested in doing the good work of helping people get jobs, training, education, and civic participation than they are in scoring points or gaining publicity, it is likely they are renaming and rebranding themselves so they can continue their work.

It isn't a case of fooling the public. It is a case of trying to do something good after being the subject of a McCarthy style witchhunt.|||Same reason the once-great AIG took its name off its own building. Where were you then and why do you blame the victims of a smear campaign instead of the smear merchants?

P.S. Woo, girl, you got schooled by the folks who answered you. Let's pray you read them %26amp; rethink.|||Because they want federal dollars to continue their plans for socialism. They do not have enough support from the average American citizen to rely on donations to fund their operations which includes nice salaries for the leaders.|||Your question asks about what I'll answer by calling it a "public image makeover." But then your Details make accusations such as trying to "fool" the public.

Perhaps their good accomplishments by far exceed their scandalous event that was caught on tape. Therefore, they believe they should remake their image and continue to do any good things they were doing.

This isn't any different than what many large corporations do. Toyota's in the process of doing it right now! No surprise there. This is what organizations do if their image is in any way tarnished - they try to remake their image.

As to whether or not people will be "fooled", it depends on just how fraudulent or scandalous the organization is overall. How long can massive fraud exist (if in fact that's what's going on)? How gullible ARE Americans overall? It remains to be seen.|||Criminals often have to use multiple aliases to avoid scrutiny for past crimes. They won't fool me but I'm sure the liberals still believe ACORN is just an innocent organization fighting for social justice.|||Because the only thing republicans were able to damage was the name with false and frivolous accusations that ended in NOTHING...

btw they stole that form Black Water, I mean Xi...|||Uncaught crooks have always done this since the beginning of time.

They circle and reunite in some other place under some other name. Kinda Like Communism in America. We thought it was gone and up jumps the devil.|||Should Martha Stewart change her name too? Is she not proud of her accomplishments? Oh come on, this is getting old.|||“During times of universal deceit, telling the truth becomes a revolutionary act”
