Safe & 'affordable' in San Diego?

HI! Any help or suggestions you can offer are much appreciated:

- My GF a%26amp; I are planning to relocate to San Diego from Chicago sometime in 2009. We don't have our jobs set yet, so we don't know our income. Assuming we wouldn't except jobs less than what we make now, and what we pay for housing- about $1550 after utilities. We prefer a safe, but not fancy neighborhood. We are willing to drive up to about 25-30 min. into the city, or live at the edge of public transit. Our IDEAL spot would have: at least 2 bedrooms, washer/dryer, fenced yard and pet friendly (cat %26amp; sm dog). We realize this is asking A LOT considering housing cost, but ANY input is helpful! (Like I said, thats the ideal, so you can tell me what if and what I won't be able to find)

Thanks much!! |||Everyone will tell you mission vallley, but is is ridiculously congested and overpriced with very little space.

For $1550, you can do fine. Try Clairemont, University City or the UTC area of La Jolla. Its very safe and clean.

Also try La Mesa and Lake Murray. You will get more for your money the further inland you live.

Check out this link o get a better idea of the prices, areas, etc. Its on craigslist:

http://sandiego.craigslist.org/apa/ |||There are many cities just outside SD but still within the county to live in that are affordable...but you need to decide if you want to be more off the 5 freeway(coast) or the 15 (inland) cause it will determine where you search for places. Print out a map of san diego then check out places for rent rhu www.pennysaverusa.com or good ol craigslist but i like the pennysaver best. Stay out of East county, its not safe. You might have to rent an old beach bungalow for the dog, but sometimes the old bungalows go for the same amoutn as apartments.|||Thats fine, you have a decent budget you could get a 2 bed in Pacific Beach for that.

Walking distance to the beach,

No crime,

Lots or night or day life.

Restaurants and churches within walking distance.

No Traffic .

you will be fine.

dont go to Downtown orsouth of Downtown as its a dump.
