Where should I live in Chicago?

Hi! I'm graduating from college in Massachusetts on Saturday and want to move to Chicago right away. I've never been and am not familiar with neighborhoods at all. Could you help me find the right area?

I'm 22 years old and will have a roommate with me. We are looking for a 2BR apartment on the cheaper side ($900/month tops). I won't have a car, so I need to be close to reliable public transportation, and I don't have a job yet, so I need to be in an area with a lot of businesses around. I would like to be in a place where there are a lot of other people in their 20s and lots to do. Good nightlife is a must! Music venues, bars, coffee houses, etc. My mother will have a heart attack in Massachusetts thinking I'm not in a safe neighborhood, so that's important too.

Thanks so much for your help!Where should I live in Chicago?
no forget the burbs it is boring there. I would look at area's like Lincoln Park, Lakeview, West Loop, Bucktown Edgewater to start off with.Where should I live in Chicago?
The burbs

One of the biggest problems facing Chicago is the influx of suburbanites and out of towners moving here. They just dont fit in or belong.
