Should Obama resign his Senate seat/drop out of race now ?

July 2, 2008

Shortly after joining the U.S. Senate and while enjoying a surge in income, Barack Obama bought a $1.65 million restored Georgian mansion in an upscale Chicago neighborhood. To finance the purchase, he secured a $1.32 million loan from Northern Trust in Illinois

The freshman Democratic senator received a discount. He locked in an interest rate of 5.625 percent on the 30-year fixed-rate mortgage, below the average for such loans

"The real question is: Were congressmen getting unique treatment that others weren't getting?" associate law professor Adam J. Levitin. "Do they do business like that for people who are not congressmen? If they don't, that's a problem."

Obama's house purchase has been a source of controversy. In 2006, the Chicago Tribune reported that on the day of the closing, the wife of Obama's longtime friend and fundraiser Antoin "Tony" Rezko closed on an adjoining lot that had been the estate's side yard.

Tony Rezko already had been linked to a grand jury investigation involving public corruption. Last month, he was convicted of 16 counts in an influence-peddling scheme that reached the highest levels of Illinois state government.|||RHIP.rank has it privledge.

Republicans are accused of the in the documetary film "maxed out:(:" but I see from your post the Democrats play this game too.

Yes it is something that should be investigated along with all the other politicians who get these "sweetheart deals:" from the banks and insurance companies.|||NO|||ya he got one of those Insider rates

like his buddy Christopher Dodd

they claim to be breaking new ground with CHANGE

lolololololololol too funny

as far as I can see its the same ole same ole

hypocrites|||When he loses, he won't even be qualified for the second year of his first term as state senator.|||Sounds like a lot of skeletons are in Mr. O's closet..!|||5.625 isn't that spectacular. Mine is much lower.|||sure he can drop out if he wants to , i will not miss him at all . and suspect neither will america once they get to know him better and start to ask themself what if anything has this person done to desire to be president ?|||Just another proof that we have no idea where this man came from. Beware people. b e w a r e of what you are voting for if you take the responsibility to vote for this man.|||Acttualy my husband is military we recived a 5.65 interest rate on our 30yr morgage and this was before the rates started going down at all. Anyone can get cheap rates they just have to be smart... just becaue most of america is stupid enough to get into a flex rate morgage doesnt mean we all are.|||Hope he does drop out and falls on you!|||My answer is: Why doesn't any of this surprise me?|||Why? When he has McCain on the run, seeking out help from Bush's former Big Man to help defeat him.

WASHINGTON 鈥?Senator John McCain鈥檚 presidential campaign has gone through its second shake-up in a year. Responding to Republican concerns that his candidacy was faltering, Mr. McCain put a veteran of President Bush鈥檚 2004 campaign in charge of day-to-day operations and stepped away from a plan to have the campaign run by 11 regional managers, Mr. McCain鈥檚 aides said Wednesday.

The installation of Steve Schmidt, who worked closely with Karl Rove, at Mr. McCain鈥檚 headquarters represented a sharp diminishment of the responsibilities of Rick Davis, who has been Mr. McCain鈥檚 campaign manager since the last shake-up nearly a year ago.

The shift was approved by Mr. McCain after several of his aides, including Mr. Schmidt, went to him about 10 days ago and warned him that he was in danger of losing the presidential election to Senator Barack Obama, the presumptive Democratic nominee, unless he revamped his campaign operation, two officials close to the campaign said.

Keep dreaming my friend...McCain is losing and apparently everyone knows it but you.|||And is this house in the same upscale gated WHITE neighborhood as the one recently purchased by (or for), oh bummer's mentor, the rev wrong?

How come they never want to live near their own people?

.|||Yes he should drop out of the race now, another reason why you can't trust Obama.|||The real question is what kind of corruption did Obama participate in? None that I can see. He bought a house, got a good interest rate (not outstanding!), and he didn't break a single law.

Cops get free donuts, the teacher gets an apple, the Senator got a good deal. Who got hurt? Where's the corruption that warrants you even asking this question?

Contrast this with Bush, Cheney and McCain and ask how many people got hurt and killed by their policies and the criminals they help every day..|||when was the last time McCain voted in the Senate he didn't even vote of the GI Bill (which McCain did not support)

obama does not need to give up his senate seat|||Why would he? He's winning!|||And John McCain is currently breaking public campaign finance law. Think he may not know it? Sure he knows, he helped write the law.

At least Obama can show up to vote, McCain is the "most absent Senator" in the current Congress. He hasn't bothered to show up to vote since early April.

That being said, tell me what law Obama broke, I read the article you linked and it doesn't say he broke any law.

But assuming he did, shall they both drop out?
