My lease specifically states "No pets or animals without consent of Lessor or Lessor's agent... No animals without leash in any public area of the building."
I live in a "No Pets Allowed" apartment. I have witnessed visitors to other aparments with dogs. The girl in the coach-house in the back ALWAYS has a dog there--so much in fact that I wonder if its hers. But I'm the one that was busted by my OCD landlord with my girlfriend's two dogs one evening. OCD grandma questioned me whether the two dogs were mine, recited the pets policy, and followed up with a letter outlining our conversation and "no pets rule".
This was in early August. I have been miserable trying to coordinate time with my girlfriend and finding dog-sitters so we can just enjoy one night out. We work opposite schedules and have opposite days off. It always helped us to have the dogs stay a night or two at my apartment if we wanted to spend time at my place or spend time downtown Chicago (I live near downtown and she in the south suburbs).
I don't see what the problem is and I'm a little angry that I'm the one that was busted. Its snowing out right now and there are dog tracks running along the walkway into the coach-house. WTF LOL
Does anyone know what the impications would be if I blatantly disobeyed 'ol Peg the Leg's rules? Understandably, I can be asked to vacate. But LEGALLY can I be evicted as they are not my pets? I also think about the phrase "No pets or animals..." and she may have me on that vague rule alone. Thanks peoples. Feel free to share similar stories and what had happened.|||I suppose you could try and ask why you are discriminated against if other people have pets 'stay over'. If you think it's worth going to war over this make sure that all your arguments are well documented with pictures and keeping a record of visiting pets of when, how long, how often and with whom others are seen with pets.|||If it states No pets allowed then yes you could be legally evicted. You should ask what the rules are about visitors and find out why the others have dogs over but why you were picked on. They others may have had pets before the rule was made and would have been "grandfathered" in, but once those pets are gone..then they will have to follow the 'No Pets" rule. You will never know until you ask, maybe he/she just wants to be made aware of any dogs before they come on the property who knows?
