Are the following currently non-issues in American politics, or are they still serious issues?

WELFARE: A federal law from 1996 supposedly reformed the welfare system, including a two-year limit for recipients. Does anyone think welfare is still too generous?

TOTAL ABORTION BAN: The pro-life/anti-abortion movement has failed to overturn the 1973 Supreme Court decision called Roe v. Wade, particularly with a constitutional amendment. Have they settled for lesser restrictions on abortion, such as parental notification for teen girls?

TOTAL GUN BAN: Since the Supreme Court's 2008 DC v. Heller decision effectively imposing a ban on a total gun ban, have though gun-control advocates who might have favored a total ban on private firearms in the pre-Heller, pre-2008 era finally given up on a total ban in favor of a more limited form of gun control? What about the more recent Supreme Court decision McDonald v. Chicago?

HANDGUN BAN: See what I said about a total gun ban.

ANIMAL RIGHTS: Is the issue of animal rights a serious political issue, or is it just a minor issue or non-issue? Is PETA or more moderate animal-rights groups power special interests, or are they just fringe groups?

VINCE FOSTER: He worked in the White House under Bill Clinton. He committed suicide in 1993 but conspiracy theorists say he was murdered. Are allegations of Foster being murdered just the ravings of crazies and kooks?

OBAMA'S BIRTHPLACE: Our current President Barack Obama in 2008 produced a birth certificate saying he was born in Hawaii in 1961. Nevertheless, the so-called birthers say he was born in Kenya. Are they just a bunch of crazies and kooks making a big deal about a non-issue?

SCHOOL PRAYER: Organized prayer in public school was banned by a 1962 Supreme Court decision. After years and decades of failing to overtirn that decision (including a constitutional amendment), have religious conservatives finally given up on this cause?

CHINESE CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTIONS: Allegedly in 1992 and 1996, Bill Clinton in his two presidential campaigns received foreign funding by Chinese, including the government of China. Is that still a big deal to critics, or is it just ancient history?|||Welfare is something I can see bouncing back and forth quite a bit. What's basically going on is the AlwaysHaves who think everyone on welfare is only there because they want to be, and the HaveNots as well as some of the HaveNows who realize there are people who really need it. I'd say it's still a big issue.

Abortion is still a big issue, though I think it's been a fade and grow thing for as long as the free world has existed.

Guns will always be a big issue. Particularly when most banning seems more to be a bandage for the real issues, such as learning to identify someone who needs serious psychological help. I think it's a lot like abortion, it's not always a front cover thing but it's always around however subtly.

Animal rights has died down a lot. Most people automatically think animal rights=Peta nut jobs, and it doesn't help that most of their followers have no clue what animal rights is. Even many of the celebrities endorsing "no more slaughter, no more harming animals' still wear fur, use leather in their product lines, happily eat meet.

It's not a huge factor, but I do think animal welfare is growing. I doubt it's something you'll hear at the supreme court any time soon or hear Obama (or any other president for that matter) talking about any time soon. I do know that quite a few small towns have been trying to get tougher and enforce laws on people blatantly abusing their animals.

Haven't heard much about Vince, could be wrong but I think he's mostly forgotten.

I wouldn't be surprised if a few people still want school prayer in public schools, however I believe most people have given up on public schools. They are horrible to begin with, and every time you turn around they're making more cuts to funds and education.

Again, haven't heard much about that, I'd say it's most likely forgotten for now. Might be brought up later if Clinton does something spectacular and critics want to ride him about it.|||Total gun ban- I don't think they will ever give up on this issue totally. If they thought they could pass it right now, they would. I think they are changing tactics by going after ammunition, pricing, and regulating guns owners out of existence.
