When it is not. If Condi Rice of Michael Steele ran for President of the
US. They would NOT get our vote. We voted on the merits and
qualifications that Obama has. He has sound judgment. He gave money to schools and public service venues in inner city Chicago.
He understands the art of war, just like Lincoln did. he studied the
same techniques that he did. He is great at debates, which means
his communication and diplomatic skils are top notch. That comes in
handy when speaking with world leaders. His geography is not bad.
He understands the social climate and demographics of our nation
like nobody's business. He is intelligent and catches on fast.
He is innovative, he is articulate. He is a knowledgeable man. These
are the traits of a true leader. With Bush being in the White House
for 8 years, some of us forgot what that is. We have raised our
standards once again, and it all went down on November the 4th.
I am proud of my country and we made the right choice. This man
Obama has defied all of the odds against him. If that does not say
anything I don't know what does. So us Blacks made a conscious
choice, based on those qualifications. The change is turning the
old inadequate, out dated, insufficient ways, into the new. That is
what he speaks of. Do you agree ?||| i wanted Clinton as president. Bill saved us before bush destroyed this great U S A. now it falls on Obama to get out of this mess we are in now. for him being black or white or green. i don't care about the color of his skin. all i care about is the U S A. if you people would get over what the color other people are this would be a better country. i am not white. white is the color of paper. let our new president get us out of the mess that bush put us in. he is my president like it or not. i might like it we will see. there is no way he can do any worse than the last president. i voted for Obama.|||And what merits and qualifications were those? Oh, I know, he has the ability to speak well and public and gives money to the poor. Sorry, but that shouldn't qualify you to be president. He has never been in charge of anything in his life and now he is in charge of the most powerful country in the world. If that isn't scary, I don't know what is. |||Go back to the primaries.
DEMOCRAT hillary clinton vs DEMOCRAT barack obama.
Did blacks split their votes like whites did?
NO, 90% of blacks supported Obama. You telling me that had NOTHING to do with race?|||It's not that it's racist, more of a fact. I was watching local news on election day and they showed an 80 year old black women going to vote, in her interview she stated that this was her very first time voting. The only reason she was voting was because Obama was black, her own words! Even though people seem to forget he is half white!
|||Agreed. It seems so obvious that African Americans would not vote for Michael Steele or Condi Rice but Republicans keep mentioning such people as if race is the only factor in the African American vote. Sometimes I think it might be better to let them continue in their racist fantasies and then try to figure it out after they've lost our vote again. |||Im white and I see nothing wrong with voting for Obama just because he is black. If I were African American I would probably vote for him too because they want someone that is connected to them and can represent them. There is nothing wrong with it. You would feel the same way to if you were white and wanted someone to represent you.|||I haven't heard of a black Republican majority since Roosevelt. Just because Obama happens to be black doesn't mean that should change. I've voted Democrat all my life--does that mean I voted for Obama because he's black? Hardly--I voted for him because I agree with his policies. |||Sort of. 88% of blacks voted for Kerry. 95% for Obama. That is slightly higher. The big thing for me was the voter turnout of african-americans. why did they all just decide they wanted to vote now?|||it makes it easier for people to swallow if they can blame it on something frivlous, rather than blaming it on the merits of the election.|||Hotep Brother,
Pay it no mind. It is nothing but mean-spirited, right wing, racist rhetoric, trying to undermine the importance of this event. The best defense is the truth. With the truth, our tongues should be as a two-edge sword.
Truth be told, I wasn't an Obama supporter; not initially, I was much more impressed with Sen. Edwards fight against poverty. However, I do know if Obama had said some of the very same things, he'd been viewed as a welfare supporter; thus eliminating any chance of being elected. This might not sound fair, but I am always a little cautious of Black politicians; as an African American I feel we can little afford another uncle Clearance Thomas.
Well, may you have long life, peace and prosperity.
Salaam, shalom, peace|||Somehow you don't make a lot of sense to me. Recent history tells me that blacks would vote for a black person no matter what. Case in point would be Marion Barry who served as Mayor of D.C. after serving 6 months in jail on drug charges. Not too mention his selling city contracts for sexual favors and money. Another is William Jefferson who has been re-elected by the predominately black race here in New Orleans (i.e., 90%) after being caught with $90,000 in his freezer. Now Jefferson has been stripped of his powers (i.e. committee appointments). So he cannot do much for his New Orleans constituents. However, he is re-elected. If not a racial vote in these two matters then what do you call it.
